Project Overview
Location: West Kelowna, BC
Project type: Basement renovation / lower-level interior renovation
Services completed: Ceiling removal, drywall ceiling installation, popcorn ceiling removal, electrical updates, pot lights, flooring, painting, trim, wall panel features, fireplace conversion and fireplace surround upgrade

01
Ceiling Removal and Drywall Ceiling Upgrade
The existing basement ceiling finishes were removed to create a cleaner and more modern finished space.
This included removing older tile ceiling areas and addressing popcorn ceiling finishes before installing a new drywall ceiling. Replacing the outdated ceiling helped the basement feel less dated and gave the lower level a smoother, more finished appearance.
A drywall ceiling also helped the space feel more connected to the rest of the home instead of feeling like a typical unfinished or partially updated basement.
02
Electrical Updates and New Pot Lights
Electrical updates were completed to improve the lighting throughout the basement.
New pot lights were added to brighten the hallway and lower-level living areas, making the basement feel more open, comfortable and usable. Proper lighting layout is an important part of basement renovations, especially in areas with limited natural light.
The updated lighting helped support the new ceiling finish and gave the renovated space a cleaner, more modern feel.

03
New Flooring, Paint and Trim
New flooring was installed throughout the renovated basement areas to create a more consistent finished surface.
Fresh paint, updated baseboards and new trim helped tie the space together. The lighter flooring brightened the hallway and lower-level areas, while the updated trim provided a clean finished edge between the walls, doors and flooring.
These upgrades helped turn the basement into a more polished and usable part of the home.
04
Custom Wall Panel Features
Trim was added to create custom wall panel details through the hallway and lower-level spaces.
This feature gave the basement more character and made the finished areas feel more intentional. The wall panel details helped break up the long hallway walls and added a more custom look without making the space feel overdone.
The panel work was coordinated with the new paint, doors, baseboards and flooring so the finished result felt cohesive.

05
Fireplace Conversion and Concrete-Look Surround
The existing wood-burning fireplace was updated to an electric fireplace for a cleaner and lower-maintenance feature.
The original brick surround was also changed to a micro-cement fireplace surround, giving the basement living area a more modern focal point. This fireplace update helped refresh the room and worked well with the other interior finishes, including the new paint, flooring, trim and lighting.
Updating the fireplace made a major difference in the overall feel of the basement and helped modernize one of the main visual features in the space.
A Basement Renovation Managed as One Complete Project
Although this renovation included several different upgrades, each part needed to be properly planned and sequenced.
Compeau Contracting coordinated the ceiling work, drywall, electrical, pot lights, flooring, painting, trim, wall panel details and fireplace updates as one connected renovation. This helped keep the project organized and allowed the different finishes to come together as one complete lower-level upgrade.
Basement renovations often involve more than one trade and more than one finish detail. Having one contractor manage the full scope helps reduce missed details, improve communication and create a cleaner finished result.
Before: An Outdated Basement Ready for a Proper Upgrade
Before the renovation, the basement had an older, unfinished lower-level feel with dated ceiling tiles, popcorn ceiling areas, basic lighting, older flooring, and plain walls.
The hallway felt narrow and dated, while the living area needed a cleaner, more modern focal point. The original wood-burning fireplace and brick surround were updated as part of the overall renovation to better match the new ceiling, lighting, flooring, trim, and wall panel details.
This project was designed to make the basement feel brighter, cleaner, and more connected to the rest of the home.
